The Malaysia Women Scuba Divers Association (WASEM) is a pioneering organization dedicated to empowering women in Malaysia through scuba diving.
Founded in 2019 by Pn Hjh Mastura a certified rescue diver, have been in the industry for more than 20 years. the association aims to promote scuba diving as a sport, encourage environmental conservation, and foster a sense of adventure and camaraderie among women divers. WASEM is particularly focused on creating opportunities for women to explore the underwater world.
At WASEM, we believe in empowering women to become leaders in sports tourism. Through our specialized training programs, we equip women with the skills and confidence to lead in the diving industry and beyond. Examples of leadership roles:
A mechanical engineer turned entrepreneur, she has become a recognized trailblazer in the scuba diving industry. With over 18 years of experience, she has emerged as a pioneering force, breaking traditional barriers in a field predominantly dominated by men. As the CEO of Scubatex Holding Berhad, she leads Malaysia's only scuba diving suit manufacturer and one of the largest equipment distributors in the region. Her efforts extend beyond corporate leadership, actively promoting women's empowerment and increasing female participation in business and sports tourism.
Her influence and commitment are evident in her roles as President of the Malaysia Women Scuba Divers Association (WASEM) & Muslimah Divers, and Secretary General of the International Federation of Sports and Tourism. An award-winning entrepreneur and certified rescue diver, she continues to drive growth within the industry, focusing on skill development and entrepreneurship. Through her leadership, she inspires women to explore and seize new opportunities in the world of diving, setting a formidable example of empowerment and innovation
Dr. Wirdati Mohd. Radzi is a seasoned Sport Law and Industry Consultant with over 25 years of experience in sport governance, legal advisory, and management. She holds a PhD from the University of Malaya and a Master’s in Sport Administration from Ohio University, USA. Dr. Radzi has served as Malaysia’s Sport Commissioner, overseeing 13,000 sport entities and implementing the Sport Development Act 1997.
Currently, she is a Sport Law Consultant at Messrs Anas Shafiee & Co. and Founder/CSO of Fortis Vita, advising international federations like the Asian Electronic Sports Federation (AESF) and Asian Sepaktakraw Federation (ASTAF). She has held key roles in the Olympic Council of Malaysia and Football Association of Selangor.
A former lecturer at the University of Malaya, she designed Malaysia’s first sports law curriculum and has published extensively on sport governance, safety, and women in leadership. Dr. Radzi is a member of the Malaysian Bar and Asian Association for Sport Management, shaping sport governance globally.
